What's My Name? Instructions

The object of What’s My Name? is to recall each person’s name you have been introduced to over time without them having to repeat it to you. The characters’ names remain the same each time you play.

The first time you meet a character they will introduce themselves and give you some information about who they are and their interests. You can use this information as well as the character’s appearance to help you associate the name with this particular character.

After the introduction you will be asked to type in the person’s name using your computer or phone keyboard. To enter the name you can either hit the spacebar to bring up the typing line or simply start typing.

If you have previously been introduced to a character, they will greet you instead of introducing themselves.

If you forgot their name, you can type a question mark [?] or click/tap on the ? button. The character will remind you what their name is, and then you will be asked again to type it in. You will not receive any points for character names where you entered an incorrect name or used the ? feature.

The first time in a session that you forget a character’s name you will also see a memory strategy tip to help you remember the name in the future.

You should try to spell each name as accurately as possible to ensure you earn points for being correct; however, the game does accept some spelling variations. If you misspell the name but it was close enough to be counted, the character will remind you of the correct spelling.

Scoring and Levels

A correctly entered name will earn a base score when a person is first introduced, and a higher score on subsequent reintroductions (since remembering names over time is more challenging). These scores gradually increase as you meet more characters, ranging from 150 points for your very first introduction to a maximum of 8480 points when you have met them all. If you respond quickly you can earn up to 25 bonus points per encounter; however a correct answer will always earn a base number of points regardless of how long you take to enter the name.

Each session will present you with 5-10 characters; after the first session these will be a combination of new characters and people you have already met. You can play as many times as you like, but you will only meet up to 10 new people per day. There are a total of 100 characters in the game to meet. Practice recalling their names every day!
